Yes. Different fibers, weaves and coatings have very specific advantages. Some fabrics are breathable, and some are not. Acrylic fabrics have a rich cloth appearance and are much more colorfast and fade resistant. Vinyl coated fabrics are the most water repellent. Mesh fabrics allow better ventilation and outward visibility.
Since our awnings and canopies are custom-made, we can cover almost any area needed. Our awnings are available in a variety of styles and fabrics, and we can design a canopy to cover almost any shaped space.
You should look for someone with experience and a reputation for quality work and service. At Parasol, we’ve been designing and installing awnings and canopies for 100 years. We use only the finest materials and design to exacting specifications. And besides the warranty provided by the fabric manufacturer, we guarantee our work to be free from defects in workmanship for one year. Our repeat business is our testament to skill and quality workmanship. We have been serving some of our customers for decades.
You should also seek out an awning company that is an active member of both the Industrial Fabrics Association International (IFAI) and the Professional Awning Manufacturers Association (PAMA). Parasol is active with both organizations.
Be sure to find out how many years the awning company has been in business and ask for references of other similar work provided by the firm you are considering, along with photos of work done. And by all means, pay a visit to their showroom.
The average lifespan of most of Parasol’s fabrics is ten or more years, while its frame can last a lifetime. Metal awnings and canopies offer an average lifespan of 20 plus years.
The average turnaround time is two to four weeks, though complex jobs can take longer.
Unfortunately, there is no easy answer. The actual cost for your awning or canopy will depend on the size, the structure it is attaching to, the fabric or material you select, whether it is stationary or retractable and a host of other factors. Enjoy the outdoors without worrying about skin cancer. It’s easy with an awning or canopy. Metal awnings and canopies block the sun 100 percent. Plus, all of our fabrics have received the Seal of Recommendation from The Skin Cancer Foundation.
When your home starts to feel small, think about going outside. With the addition of an awning or canopy you can instantly create an outdoor living room or dining room. A recent national study found that 60 percent of homeowners did not use outdoor space as much as they would have liked to, primarily because of lack of shelter from the elements.
The difference between an awning and a canopy is in the support structure. An awning attaches to a building and projects outward. There is no support below. A canopy can attach to a building or stand independently, but one or more sides have supports holding it up.
Exterior upgrades can significantly increase your home’s value at the time of resale and few improvements add more charm and interest than a perfectly styled awning or canopy. In fact, three of the four types of home improvement projects that most significantly increase a home’s value at the time of resale were exterior upgrades. And the same holds true for your business as well. Our designers can really boost your curb appeal by accenting your property’s best features or downplaying its flaws. See Awning and Canopy Benefits.
If you’re renting or managing a property, curb appeal can make all the difference. A welcoming awning or canopy can help to impress potential tenants and a well-maintained exterior can help you retain happy tenants by continuing to drive foot-traffic into their businesses. Whether your property is upscale and exclusive or down-home and friendly, we can make just the right awning or canopy for your property.

The first decision to make when considering an awning or canopy for your home is what material will best suit your needs – fabric or metal. In addition to being less expensive than metal, fabric achieves a softer look and offers more color options. Fabric also provides you greater flexibility to change out the color of your awning or canopy cover at a later time if you like, as the cost for a “recover” is so inexpensive. The average lifespan of most of Parasol’s fabrics is ten or more years. While metal awnings and canopies are a bit more expensive than fabric, they offer an average lifespan of 20 plus years. Metal is much easier to clean and isn’t as likely to stain from weather or tree sap.
A well-crafted awning or canopy can drive customer traffic into your business – through creative designs and shapes, and bold color choices. If you want to be doubly sure you’re maximizing your traffic opportunities, add graphics to your awning or canopy to make certain customers can find you. Greater visibility can boost your brand’s recognition and increase sales. Because this type of signage can be much less costly than fabricating and installing a separate, traditional sign, it pays for itself more quickly.
Make your home instantly look and feel much bigger by adding an awning or canopy to create an outdoor living room or dining room. A recent national study found that 60 percent of homeowners did not use their outdoor space as much as they would have liked to, primarily because of lack of shelter from the elements. Awnings and canopies can reduce heat gain by 55 to 66 percent on southern facing windows and 72 to 77 percent when there is a western exposure. By reducing your air conditioning costs, these energy-saving enhancements quickly pay for themselves.
